Sydenham Ambers claim win over Bridgwater Mercury

Bridgwater Mercury 37, Sydenham Ambers 38 AMBERS claimed a narrow one-point win over nearby neighbours Mercury.

Mercury introduced some of the club's U14s to a taste of senior netball.

Ambers lead 9-11 at the end of the first quarter after good shooting from Adele Ranford and Megan Walford despite good defensive work by duo Laura Gibson and Saskia Middleton.

Debutants Katy Tasker and Lucy Kyte made an impressive start to their senior campaign and centre Courtney Steel, Lily Rowland and player of the match Karis Holleran were able to snatch the lead for Bridgwater at the end of the second quarter 20-15.

Entering the third quarter, Ambers brought on Leanne Wegg, Katie Dennison and Paige Pople moved back to GA as the Sydenham side pulled away.

In the final quarter Mercury's changes proved effective but despite excellent teamwork by every player, Mercury lost out by one goal. Katie Dennison and Megan Walford shared the player of the match vote and Umpire vote going to Paige Pople.

Bridgwater Jupiter 47, Newton 34 AFTER beating Newton just two weeks ago, Jupiter faced them for the return leg.

Baylea Charles provided a great connection between the defence and attack as well as making valuable interceptions, enabling shooter Paige Davey to put away the goals, giving them a nine goal lead at half time. Continuous pressure from Hannah Symes pushed the ball up to the Jupiter shooters and with excellent interceptions and movement from goal attack Amy Shaw, Jupiter pulled away to win 47-34.

Joint players of the match were Paige Davey, Baylea Charles and Hannah Symes.

Bridgwater Mars 26 Henford 44 MARS travelled to Yeovil to play Henford, spirits high from a great win the weekend before.

From the start the Yeovil side took advantage of their very tall shooters and at half time they were ahead 23-15. Imogen Setter and Zoe Ingram made numerous centre court interceptions to keep Mars in the game while Mary King at goal defence was a well-deserved player of the match always making life difficult for the tall shooter.
